Sustainable Construction
Time For Oceans offers consulting services for sustainable construction
- Sustainability/environmental impact consulting
- Innovation support: design of low-impact sailboats
- Use of recycled carbon fibers in partnership with Nova Carbon
- Use of natural and bio-based materials
- Conferences and educational support on the ecological transition
Since 2018, Time For Oceans has been developing design and construction methods that significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the manufacturing of recreational and racing vessels.
During preparations for the 2020 Vendée Globe, modifications made to the IMOCA Time For Oceans at the Multiplast shipyard in Vannes enabled the implementation of concrete solutions and the assessment of their impact:
- Development of a developable hull design allowing the construction of a boat without a mold (25% reduction in CO2 emissions) on a prototype
- Machining of a steel mold for the cockpit furniture and recycling by partner SUEZ
- Construction of a 25 m² coachroof in a 12 m² wooden mold, using an optimized technique. CO2 emissions reduced by 30% and budget reduced by 25%
- Circular economy: reuse of foils, rudders, daggerboards, and composite parts
- Testing with bio-based resins
- Testing of implementation processes that do not require curing
We conducted several test campaigns on bio-based and recycled materials with our technical partners:
- Nova Carbon: supply of recycled carbon fibers
- G-On: life cycle analysis
- Multiplast: production of test specimens
- Malvaux: supply of wood
- B Comp: supply of flax fibers
- Ademe: audit of results
